Canada Day festivities

The Glengarry News - Glengarry Special - - Discover Glengarry Year-round -

If you’re in Glengarry on Canada Day then you should consider yourself lucky. Glengarrians love celebrating their country’s birthday, which is why you’ll see lots of red and white and maple leaves around these parts when July 1 arrives.

At least two of our communities celebrate early. Glen Robertson will hold its celebration on June 27, starting at noon and ending at midnight. It includes everything from a parade to live music to a $1,000 draw.

Maxville always celebrates on June 30 so it doesn’t have to compete with larger centres like Alexandria. Show up at the Maxville Fairgrounds around 6 that evening and you’ll be able to take in a barbecue, games for the kids, a lip sync contest, and fireworks at dusk.

Of course, July 1 is an even bigger day with plenty of fun throughout the county. If you’re in Alexandria, you may want to take in the parade on Main Street before venturing to Island Park for a day of fun and fireworks.

In South Glengarry, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Charlottenburgh Park. The park is bustling with live entertainment and vendors and the beach is always open for swimming too.

Other communities like Apple Hill and Martintown also have Canada Day activities planned this year.
