Auctioneer Challenge a first
Auctioneers will be entertaining bids and vying for bragging rights in the Auctioneer Challenge that will be held September 24 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the IPM.
This is the fist time such a contest will be held at the Plowing Match, explains organizer Flora Dumouchel, a semi-retired Ingleside auctioneer.
The 30 competitors, including three from the United States, will be required to sell three items. The salespeople will be judged by a five-member panel both on style and effectiveness. The participants will be ranked on rhythm, clarity, appearance, confidence, filler words and ability to make the sale.
The winner of the contest wins $1,000 and the opportunity to sell a restored 1948 Ford tractor.
Second and third place finishers will earn $750 and $500 respectively.
