BY ANGELA BROWN
News Staff For Romeo Lacombe and his wife, Joanne, co-owners of Romeo’s Service Centre and Auto Sales Inc. in Alexandria, family life and work life go well together, a bit like coffee with cream.
The North Glengarry residents have been working together for many years and love what they do, making their family business a success.
Romeo Lacombe started the service station in Fassifern in 1999. The business then relocated to its current spot at 19 Linsley St. E. in Alexandria in 2002. Mr. Lacombe added used car sales to the business about four years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Lacombe related they enjoy combining their talents at work -- Mrs. Lacombe as one of the service advisers at the front desk and Mr. Lacombe overseeing the service technicians at work repairing vehicles in the back and consulting with clients.
“He makes sure the operation is running smoothly on the floor,” added Mrs. Lacombe.
“It’s my passion,” added Mr. Lacombe.
He started in the auto field in the 1970s servicing vehicles for car dealers before eventually getting his own business. “I’ve always been in shop repair,” he related.
Mr. Lacombe later decided to open a used car sales operation at the same location in addition to his service centre because, “I love to sell cars.”
For Mrs. Lacombe, helping customers gives her a lot of satisfaction. “I love interacting with the people,” she related.
Before she started working with her husband at Romeo’s in 2001 she used to manage another business. So when her husband’s shop started to grow and he needed more help she decided to join him on the job. And she has never looked back.
Mrs. Lacombe was able to help with the paper-work and administrative side of the business to share the responsibility of running the shop.
Today Mr. and Mrs. Lacombe agree having a family-owned company has made them especially loyal to their business and their customers. “We love serving our clients,” added Mrs. Lacombe. When he factors in all the years since he first started in the auto sector through to the time when he opened his own business 17 years ago, Mr. Lacombe proudly related he has been serving some of his customers for as long as 30 years.
“And they are always coming back,” he added with a smile.
