Meat is the main rea­son Alexan­dria’s B&B Food Mar­ket is so pop­u­lar dur­ing the hol­i­day sea­son.

“Peo­ple say the meat here is fan­tas­tic,” says Ca­role Brunet, who op­er­ates the Bishop Street, Alexan­dria gro­cery store with her hus­band, Denis.

The fam­ily-owned busi­ness has been pro­vid­ing the community with qual­ity fresh meat for three gen­er­a­tions. Es­tab­lished in 1948, the busi­ness was taken over by Mr. Brunet in 1993.

“We know our cus­tomers’ birth­days. Some of them have been com­ing here gen­er­a­tion af­ter gen­er­a­tion. We can of­fer them per­son­al­ized ser­vice,” adds Mrs. Brunet, not­ing that many value the op­por­tu­nity of dis­cussing cuts with a fa­mil­iar butcher. With seven em­ploy­ees, the store has a large num­ber of loyal cus­tomers. Meat pack­ages sell es­pe­cially well dur­ing bar­be­cue sea­son, and at Thanks­giv­ing and Christ­mas.
