Shopping has never been easier. At the Alexandria Home Hardware store, for example, shoppers can drop by the store, or shop over the phone or online.

In recent years, while online shopping has become popular, many consumers have been opting for the best of both worlds. While they may use the Internet to get information and compare prices, many still want to come in and “kick the tires.”

Another trend is for people to order online and have their purchases dropped off at their local store.

Home Hardware continues to demonstrate the importance of private companies to the Canadian economy. Since 1964, Home has grown from 122 independent hardware dealersowners, to a family that now includes close to 1,100 stores and over $6 billion in annual retail sales.

Home Hardware Stores Limited is Canada's largest independent home improvement retailer with close to 1,100 stores under the Home Hardware, Home Building Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre and Home Furniture banners with annual retail sales of over $6 billion. The privately owned wholesale company was founded in 1964 in rural St. Jacobs, Ontario and remains 100 per cent Canadian owned and operated. Through the Home Hardware network, dealers-owners have access to 100,000 quality, brand name and private label products, a state-of-the-art distribution system and extensive marketing and training programs.
