B&B a recipe for success

B&B Grocery and Meat Market in Alexandria epitomizes a time-honoured recipe for success -- combine fresh products with friendly employees, personalized service, loyal customers and blend in an old-fashioned small-store ambiance.

“My parents told me that you always have to make the customers happy,” recalls Denis Brunet, who operates the grocery store with his wife, Carole.

The market was established seven decades ago, in 1948, by Mr. Brunet’s grandfather, Bruno Brunet, and his grandfather’s brother-in-law, René Boisvenue. The business, which now employs eight, was later operated by Mr. Brunet’s father, Maurice.

Over the years, the store has maintained the tradition of giving shoppers what they want. “We know most of our customers by name,” says Mr. Brunet.

Meat is one of the prime reasons the shop is so popular. The Brunets ensure that their Canadian-produced meats are fresh, catering to the individual tastes of their clientele.

This is a particularly busy time of year as people begin placing orders for fresh turkeys for Christmas, and to take advantage of specials on freezer orders.

Fresh deli meats and winter meat packs are also available.

TRADITION: Carole and Denis Brunet in the third-generation family-owned store.
