ATV restrictions are warranted

The Glengarry News - - The Opinion Page - ( The Glengarry News,

The Editor, I refer to my letter entitled ' ATV's: Municipalities are the boss'

February 11, 2015). In response to the reported statement by a spokesman for the Glendaler's Winter Sports Club at a recent meeting with South Glengarry Council that, "We currently use green roads (unopened road allowances) in North and South Glengarry ..."

I wrote in my letter as submitted for publication, that "North Glengarry By-law no 24-2007 regulates access of ATVs (ORVs) driven on all roads falling within the jurisdiction of the municipality, including green roads and unopened road allowances. For good historical reasons the by-law bans ATV access to green roads and unopened road allowances (with two specific exceptions in Kenyon) and restricts movement of ATVs on the roads to daytime hours between 6 a.m. to 11 p.m."

Unfortunately, my letter - as published - is missing this statement so confusion has been created for the reader.
