It was another busy long weekend
in our region as people immersed themselves in collections, the pursuit of fish and prizes, and a chilly dip for a good cause. Top: Rudie Vander Byl, 11, who lives on McCormick Rd., met Alisha Giroux, the Glen Sandfield native who designed special coins for the Royal Canadian Mint. People were lined up at the Alexandria post office to congratulate Ms. Giroux. (Left) At the 13th Annual Alexandria Ice Fishing Derby, Pierre Lavergne’s beard attested to the chilly weather. (Right) Elizabeth Johnston, in pink, and Cathy MacLean, both of Alexandria, jump into the freezing water of Mill Pond at the third annual Polar Bear Dip to raise funds for the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame. This was the first of two plunges for Ms. MacLean who challenged herself to two dips if she met her fundraising goal. She raised $1,900.
