Foot­ball prospects named

Qual­i­fiers for the next round of the On­tario Prospects Chal­lenge have been named. What fol­lows here are the ath­letes who are prod­ucts of the Glen­garry Gaels foot­ball club. Car­ry­ing the county ban­ner in the Mi­nors group is Felix Pilon. The Grade 7 team prospects are Cam­den Bar­rett and Bran­don Urquhart.

Mov­ing on to the next round for the Grade 8 East­ern On­tario squad are Eric Cum­ber­batch, Pa­trick Cum­ber­batch, and Ja­cob Traynor.

Fresh­men (Grade 9) prospects are Max­imus Sabourin, Danika Lav­i­gne, and Gabriel Seguin.

Si­mon Korteweg and Chase McRae will be com­pet­ing for spots on the fi­nal ros­ter of the Sopho­more (Grade 10) East­ern On­tario team.

Se­niors picked to ad­vance are Alex Zar­ifi, Cameron Howes, Micheal Bis­son­nette, and Terry Dog­bey.

The ath­letes, billed as the top 100 at each level, were se­lected from re­cent open try­outs. Up­com­ing work­outs will whit­tle the ros­ters down to form the fi­nal squads that will rep­re­sent our re­gion in OPC games this spring.

Colts to hold Cru­saders night Feb. 4

Corn­wall's ju­nior ‘A’ hockey club, the Colts, will hon­our stu­dents from Char-Lan District High School on Thurs­day, Feb. 4, with Cru­saders Night. Stu­dent tick­ets, at a cost of just $5, are avail­able from the school of­fice.

The cur­rent team in­cludes a num­ber of stu­dents, past and present, and has seen many Cru­saders move through its ranks over the years.

Game time on Feb. 4 is set for 7:30 p.m., and the con­test will fea­ture the Colts host­ing the Pem­broke Lum­ber Kings, at the Corn­wall Civic Com­plex.

The Colts also plan to have some mi­nor hockey Rebels as flag bear­ers (pre-game) and a novice team play­ing a scrim­mage dur­ing the first in­ter­mis­sion.

CCHL2 rep­re­sented at HEO show­case

As part of the Jan. 25 HEO Win­ter Show­case in Ottawa, a CCHL2 all-star game was played, where the Martin Divi­sion 98/99 team fell to the Richard­son Divi­sion squad 2-1.

Alexan­dria Glens goal­tender Nick Camp­bell played half the game, al­low­ing one goal against. None of the county con­tin­gent (Eric Duguay, Phil Veilleux, Dy­lan Seguin, Lan­don Veen­stra) picked up points in the loss.

The Martin side's only goal came from Oliver Castle­man, who plays for the Cas­sel­man Vik­ings. Richard­son mark­ers were notched by Marc Ber­trand (Stittsvill­e Roy­als) and Ja­cob Steege (Arn­prior Pack­ers).

Glens head coach Stephan Nadeau served on the Martin Divi­sion bench as an as­sis­tant coach.

Lan­caster leads ‘4-City Tour’

In se­nior men’s in­ter-club curl­ing last week at the Alexan­dria Curl­ing Club, all four en­trants played to split re­sults.

Points to date are as fol­lows: Lan­caster 34, Alexan­dria 28, Van­kleek Hill 28, and Maxville 22.

Next round is booked for Feb. 16 at the Glen­garry Curl­ing Club in Maxville.
