Heartbreaker is on
The annual Heartbreaker hockey tournament is set to take over ice sheets in Alexandria and Maxville this weekend, as the Glengarry Girls Hockey Association hosts teams from western Quebec, the Ottawa area, and northern New York State.
The midget ‘B’ division will be played entirely in Maxville, starting at 9 a.m. on Feb. 13 and concluding with the gold medal final on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
Two Glengarry Highlanders teams are competing in this group, along with the Nepean Wildcats, the Potsdam Icestorm, the Russell Coyotes, and les Rapides de Champlain.
The midget house division will have round-robin matches in Maxville, with finals Sunday evening in Alexandria.
Bantam house teams do the opposite, playing at the Glengarry Sports Palace for the most part, with finals Sunday afternoon in Maxville.
There are no Glengarry groups in the midget house or bantam house classes.
Peewee house contests are split between the two rinks, with the gold/silver final booked for 5 p.m. at the GSP.
In this group, the Highlanders will tangle with the Cornwall Akwesasne Wolves, the CRGHA Lightning, and Extreme HFVG.
All but two novice house matches will be played in Alexandria over the weekend.
In addition to a Glengarry squad, competing teams are Cornwall Typhoons Black, Cornwall Typhoons Red, Cornwall Typhoons Grey, GCGH 1 Ice Dogs, and the Nepean Wildcats.
The title match is slated for 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the GSP.
Each division will also hold skills competitions at various times through the weekend.
