Bantam Highlanders win in QC
The Glengarry Highlanders bantam hockey nabbed the title at a Jan. 22-24 tournament in Longueuil, Quebec, posting a 4-1-record.
The ladies opened with a 3-2 overtime victory against the host Champlain squad. In game two, the Highlanders bowed to Sherbrooke 2-1 in a shoot-out, setting up an elimination contest with the West Lake Wings the following day. That game saw the girls come out flying, with Glengarry blanking the Wings 3-0.
Next morning, the Highlanders met Richelieu in a semifinal battle. It was a nail-biter, where the Highlanders survived a 90-second stretch of six-on-three play late, to prevail 1-0.
The championship game pitted our local girls against the West Lake Wild. This one was a bit anticlimactic, as the Glengarry girls quickly took control, scoring twice late in the first period, en route to a 3-0 victory and the championship banner. Tyla-Me Decoeur posted three consecutive shutouts in the tourney and was named player of the game for the semifinal. Other match honourees were Ashley MacCrimmon, Sadie Sandilands, Eva Quenneville, and Myriam Boisvenue.
