Our dog does not attack

The Glengarry News - - The Opinion Page -

The Editor, In most cases if someone identifies a dog as a certain breed and is mistaken it is hardly a serious matter, however, when that person or persons accuse a dog of aggressive behaviour they should get their facts straight.

Recently, we heard from several friends asking about the front page article in the February 3 edition of The Glengarry News, (“Special Appeal”), in which Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz of Glen Walter claimed that Mrs. Schwartz was “attacked” by a Portuguese Water Dog. We got the calls because we own a Portuguese Water Dog and there are very few such dogs in the area.

It did not take long to discover that we know the dog Mr. Schwartz is accusing and it is not a Portuguese Water Dog. The dog is of mixed lineage but a Portuguese Water Dog is not in his ancestry. From our few encounters with the dog we know him to be a friendly, gentle family pet.
