SDGAA ti­tle up for grabs

On the strength of a pair of vic­to­ries at the last reg­u­lar-sea­son high school boys hockey tour­na­ment, held Feb. 9 in Long Sault, the Char-Lan Cru­saders snagged se­cond spot in the SDGAA stand­ings.

Char- Lan blanked North Dun­das 3- 0 and pounded Se­away 6-1 to wrap up the sea­son. The lead­ing point-get­ter was Sam McDougall.

In other ac­tion, La Ci­tadelle dou­bled Se­away 6-3 and St. Joseph’s got past La Ci­tadelle 4-2.

With the wins, Char-Lan fin­ished the sched­ule with a 5-2 record, tied with La Ci­tadelle, though the Cru­saders get the edge for se­cond place as a re­sult of their head-to-head play.

St. Joseph’s, at 7-0 on the sea­son, tops the ta­ble and will host the play­off tour­na­ment Feb. 23 in Long Sault (the Pan­thers’ home rink).

The first semi­fi­nal will have St. Joseph’s take on fourth­seeded North Dun­das (3-3-1) at 9 a.m., while the se­cond semi will fea­ture Char-Lan and Les Pa­tri­otes at 10:30 a.m.

The cham­pi­onship con­test is booked for a 1 p.m. start.

Round­ing out the fi­nal league stand­ings, Holy Trin­ity fin­ished just out of the play­off pic­ture in fifth spot, with a 2-4-1 record. Se­away and CCVS were both 2-5 on the sea­son, and Tagwi checked in at 1-6.
