SDGAA title up for grabs
On the strength of a pair of victories at the last regular-season high school boys hockey tournament, held Feb. 9 in Long Sault, the Char-Lan Crusaders snagged second spot in the SDGAA standings.
Char- Lan blanked North Dundas 3- 0 and pounded Seaway 6-1 to wrap up the season. The leading point-getter was Sam McDougall.
In other action, La Citadelle doubled Seaway 6-3 and St. Joseph’s got past La Citadelle 4-2.
With the wins, Char-Lan finished the schedule with a 5-2 record, tied with La Citadelle, though the Crusaders get the edge for second place as a result of their head-to-head play.
St. Joseph’s, at 7-0 on the season, tops the table and will host the playoff tournament Feb. 23 in Long Sault (the Panthers’ home rink).
The first semifinal will have St. Joseph’s take on fourthseeded North Dundas (3-3-1) at 9 a.m., while the second semi will feature Char-Lan and Les Patriotes at 10:30 a.m.
The championship contest is booked for a 1 p.m. start.
Rounding out the final league standings, Holy Trinity finished just out of the playoff picture in fifth spot, with a 2-4-1 record. Seaway and CCVS were both 2-5 on the season, and Tagwi checked in at 1-6.
