Gaels boys suc­cumb to Saints

Glen­garry District’s ju­nior boys bas­ket­ball team reached the SD& G cham­pi­onship match last Fri­day in Alexan­dria, only to run up against the pow­er­ful St. Lawrence team, which had won hand­ily when the schools met dur­ing the reg­u­lar sea­son.

The Gaels en­tered the fi­nal rid­ing an eightgame win­ning streak, and they played the Saints tough, stay­ing close through­out, be­fore fall­ing 47-39.

One of the GD coaches, Bruce MacCal­lum, noted the Saints have big play­ers who ef­fec- tively box out. How­ever, St. Lawrence coach Josh Greely noted how much the Gaels had im­proved from their ear­lier meet­ing.

As a team, GD had five-three point­ers in the game. Dove Rick­erd led with 13 points.

In the semi­fi­nals, the Gaels pre­vailed 63-39 over Se­away, while the Saints pow­ered past Roth­well-Osnabruck 50-26. –
