Peewees go for title
Glengarry’s peewee Gaels football team will play for the spring league championship on Sunday in Alexandria.
The squad had a 5-1 record during the regular season, scoring 148 points while allowing just 52 against. Three results were shutout wins.
The Cornwall #2 Wildcats finished second in the standings, based on point differential, hav- ing an identical win-loss record to the Gaels. The two teams split their regular- season results, with Glengarry winning 21-20 in their first meeting, before dropping a 26-20 decision in the last game of the season.
Glengarry had been slated to play a semifinal match last Sunday against Russell, but the Renegades forfeited, so the Gaels advance to the champi- onship contest, booked for the GDHS gridiron on June 26. Opening kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
The opponent for the county squad will, not surprisingly, be Cornwall #2, which blanked Cornwall #1 with a 21-0 effort last weekend in their semi.
The peewee Gaels are the lone Glengarry team competing for a title this year, as squads at the other three levels bowed out in their respective semis. Please see the separate story for details.
