Football at the Maxville Fair

- – Sean Bray

As in past years, Friday Night Lights football at the Maxville Fair is a go, with two games planned for the infield on June 24.

The Glengarry tyke Gaels are expected to open the evening, kicking off at 6:30 p.m, followed by the mosquito Gaels at 8 p.m.

Providing the opposition in both matches will be squad out of the Cornwall Wildcats program.

The football evening is held as part of Purolator’s Tackle Hunger program, and everyone attending is asked to bring a donation of a non-perishable food item for the food bank. Contributions will be collected at entry points to the fairgrounds.

The Kenyon Agricultural Society always makes this a wonderful experience for the players and spectators, with the event featuring player introductions, the national anthem, play-by-play commentary, and a roving onfield reporter.

Spring league playoff results

Glengarry’s tykes and mosquitos both bowed out of spring league playoffs on Sunday in Cornwall.

The tyke Gaels dropped their match 26-6, with the lone touchdown coming late, scored by Alexis Decoeur. The play was made possible by a terrific block from Travis Brisebois.

Assistant coach Alex Zarifi said, “It was their best game of the season. We struggled a bit, but we did what we could. Our stars played like stars. I saw the biggest block I've ever seen by one of my tykes.” He added that he sees plenty of potential for the future.

The mosquito game finished as a 35-8 loss. Cameron Belisle had the touchdown.
