Hearts boys in search of per­fec­tion

BY SEAN BRAY Sports Edi­tor With a de­ci­sive 7-0 vic­tory in Alexan­dria on Sun­day evening, the Glen­garry U14 boys Hearts soc­cer team is within strik­ing dis­tance of a per­fect sea­son.

The East Re­gion Soc­cer League team has a record of 10-0-0 in league play, and goal­keeper Lo­gan Keuren­t­jes has back­stopped five shutouts.

The most re­cent win se­cured first place for the Hearts, with per­fect all that’s left to be de­cided.

Scor­ing on Sun­day night were Gabriel McGuire (2), Ken­neth MacMil­lan (2), Jimmy Bour­bon­nais, Todd McBain, and Justin McNairn.

It was the boys’ sec­ond vic­tory this month, in a light sched­ule.

Glen­garry pre­vi­ously spanked Car­leton Place La­nark United 12-0, on goals from Bour­bon­nais (3), Justin Mil­ley (2), MacMil­lan, Mikael Sch­nupp, McBain, Jared McLeod, Max­ence Poirier-Joanette, Jeffrey Wil­lard, and McNairn.

McBain is the team’s lead­ing scorer, hav­ing pot­ted 14 thus far. Bour­bon­nais is sec­ond on the team, with 10.

The Hearts are slated to wrap up their ERSL sea­son on the road Aug. 24, against sec­ond-place Ot­tawa City (6-1-2).

The Glen­garry squad is coached by D. A. MacMil­lan, Pascal Joanette, and Richard Wil­lard.

The ex­pec­ta­tion is that next sea­son the group will move up to play as a U15 squad at the tier 1 level.
