Dalkeith is the most active branch
The Editor, The Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Counties Library has a staff of nine. There are 19 libraries in the system. The population of the counties is around 65,000. In my opinion, the number of SDG card carrying library patrons is almost a very negligible percentage of that 65,000. The library board budget is $2 million. Library branch closures are imminent.
Is it possible a $2 million budget does not suffice to get the job done properly?
Is it possible the Counties Library is experiencing a shortfall in managing the Dalkeith Library, Dalkeith being the most active of the three libraries slated for closure?
If a shortfall actually exists, what type of a levy would be required and administered by whom so that Dalkeith Library could remain open? Money talks.
Ontario and Canada have just come out with a slate of new grants in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary. There's money there.
In April, Dalkeith patrons said, “Hands off the Dalkeith Library.” Guess what, Library Board? Four months later, the message has not changed. Let’s do what it takes to keep Dalkeith Library open ad eternum.
