BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor The Dunvegan senior women’s team of the Glengarry Soccer League swept its semifinal series, dispatching Laggan in two games, to advance to the championship series.

As of press time, the opponent for the finals had yet to be determined, as Alexandria FC and Vankleek Hill ‘A’ were booked to play a deciding match last night, Aug. 16. Please check for updates online at www.sportsintheglens.ca

Dunvegan opened its playoff season with a 2-0 victory over Laggan on Aug. 9, as Michelle DeRepentigny scored twice.

Two days later, the contest went into overtime, where Team Blue prevailed 1-0 over the Black Shirts. The goal scorer’s name was not available.

In the other semifinal series, Vankleek Hill ‘A’ took the opener 2-0, on markers from Caro Ranger and Alexia Chaumont.

Game two saw Alexandria FC turn the tables on the Grey Shirts, as Team Red won 2-0.

Courtney Laplante had the early goal, with Krista Chaddock scoring late, in time added on.

In between, Alexandria FC goalkeeper Logan Leger turned aside a penalty kick.

During the regular season, the northerners amassed the best record, for 40 points, one more than Laggan. Dunvegan finished third (37 points), followed by Alexandria FC (29).

Glen Nevis also had 29 points, but missed out on the post-season party due to the league’s tiebreaking formula.

The championship series will be a best-of-three affair this year and is expected to begin later this week.

Once confirmed, we will post details to our website.

Last year’s winner was Laggan, which beat Dunvegan.
