‘Why can’t you call us back?’
The Editor, My husband and I moved to Green Valley from Montréal three years ago and purchased our first house together.
I am not a handyman but I can do little things around the house. Our house needed a few repairs, bigger jobs than I can do. With a hardware store close by, I’m thinking, “Where better to get the names of professionals and businesses?” So I was told to hire locally instead of contractors from Cornwall or the vicinity. To my amazement, over the three years, I can not tell you how many profession- al people we have called. I don’t understand why all these businesses have voice mail and/or answering machines and say to “leave a message and I will get back to you.” At a couple of well-known plumbing places, we have left four messages.
Now, I can understand people are busy but are you too busy to give a call back and say either “I am overloaded with work” or “Sorry, I can’t do that job.” Then they could refer you to someone else who may not be as busy. But gee whiz, at least have the decency to call a person back and let them know.
Now if you have all these jobs and no time for new people then why advertise?
Don’t forget one thing: It was us guys with the little jobs that started your business off and you expanded.
So try not to forget the little person even if it isn’t a $2,000 or $5,000 job. So now I have to resort to Cornwall professional people to come up here.
Thanks, Alexandria professionals. (LOL, hire locally!) This leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
