With just one year of experience under her belt, South Lancaster’s Hannah Rousseau captured the silver medal in the female cadet compound division, Aug. 11-14, at the Ontario Summer Games, in Mississauga.

The 14-year-old competed in a group of girls ages 14-17. Though the weather at Erindale Park was anything but ideal, including downpours, wind, and a tornado warning, Rousseau managed to shoot two solid rounds with a scores of 529/720 and 578/720 (personal best).

The youngster was introduced to the sport of archery by her dad, Kris, last year. Under the guidance of South Nation Archery Club coaches Kathy Millar-Smith and Larry Smith, the Glengarrian has spent countless hours practising and training, with the goal of improving her skills and finding success in competition.

Since participating in her first in- house tournament last December, Rousseau has continued to advance.

Among the successes this year, the teen archer claimed gold in the cub age group at the Ontario Mail Match, the Ontario 10-Ring Indoor Championships, and the IFAA Indoor Championships.

Stepping up to the cadet level, she placed ninth in the Archery Canada Regional Indoor Championships and the Multisites Indoor Championship of the Americas.
