Spate of break-ins
A 50-year-old North Glengarry man faces 10 charges following a two break- ins in Stormont County.
Brent Tracey was arrested August 29 after members of the Stormont- Dundas- Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment responded to an inprogress break-in at a home on County Road 18 in St. Andrews West. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Tracey is also allegedly linked to a break-in reported August 27 at a residence on Strathmore Road in North Stormont in which cash, jewellery and an electronic tablet were taken. Police later recovered items related to both breakins.
Mr. Tracey was charged with two counts each of break and enter, and possession of break-in instruments; one count of possession of property obtained by crime; two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance; and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment is investigating a series of break-ins that have taken place across the county over the past several weeks.
Sometime between July 24 and 30, several power tools and lawn trimmers were taken from a residence on Parkhill Circle in North Lancaster.
In another incident, electronic devices and jewellery were stolen from a residence on Donald Street in Alexandria August 17.
Sometime between August 7 and 17, a 2012 Heartland Jasper Trail camping trailer was stolen from a property on SDG Road 2 in South Glengarry. An electric bicycle and assorted tools were lifted from a residential garage at a property on Sutherland Avenue in South Glengarry sometime during the night of August 20/21.
During the night of August 22/23, construction equipment and two crossbows were taken from a residential garage on County Road 23 in North Glengarry.
Police charged a 28-year-old Toronto man with street racing/stunt driving August 14 after he was clocked at a speed of 155 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 401 in South Glengarry. An 18-year-old North Dundas man was charged August 18 after registering a speed of 138 km/h in a 80 km/ h zone in South Glengarry. An 18-year-old man from South Glengarry was charged August 24 after he was caught travelling at a speed of 168 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on County Road 34 in South Glengarry.
Drinking and driving
A 28-year-old Cornwall man faces two impaired driving charges following an OPP traffic stop on John Street in Williamstown August 7. Joshua James was to appear in Cornwall court at a later date.
August 5, the Cornwall Community Police Service charged a 28-year-old Alexandria man with impaired driving following a traffic stop at the Cornwall Port of Entry. Daniel O’Brien was later released and was scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The OPP charged two men with marijuana possession following a traffic stop on Boundary Road in South Glengarry on August 20.
Mubeen Mohammed, 23, of Mississauga, and Zahid Mohammad, 43, of Cambridge, were both subsequently released. They are scheduled to appear in Alexandria court on October 12.
A 26-year-old North Glengarry man was charged with marijuana possession, speeding and driving while under suspension, following a traffic stop on County Road 18 in South Stormont August 23. Ira Lavergne is to appear in Cornwall court (regarding the drug charge) October 25.
Scott Anderson, 46, of Cornwall, was charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop on Duncan Street in Lancaster on August 25. He is to appear in Alexandria court October 12.
Jonathan Hall, 28, of North Glengarry was charged with possession of a controlled substance ( methamphetamine) and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order in Alexandria on August 31.
He was held in custody pending a bail appearance in Cornwall court.
Cornwall police charged a 33year-old Alexandria man with distribution of intimate images, criminal harassments, issuing threats and breach of probation (failing to keep the peace) following a series of incidents involving a 40-year-old woman and two other people. The suspect was arrested August 7 after he allegedly contacted the woman repeatedly, despite having been told by her not to do so. He also allegedly sent intimate photos of the woman to another person and threatened to kill a male acquaintance of hers.
An 18-year-old man was arrested July 24 following a family dispute at a residence on Dalkeith Road in North Glengarry. The suspect – whose name is being withheld in order to protect the identities of the alleged victims – was charged with assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a sentence.
A 26-year-old Cornwall man was charged with three counts of spousal assault following a domestic incident involving his ex- spouse at a residence on County Road 27 in South Glengarry on August 26. The suspect, whose name was withheld in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim, was also charged with criminal harassment and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Cornwall police charged a 41year-old Williamstown man with impaired driving following a traffic stop near First and Pitt Streets July 18.
Benjamin Pye was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
