Fire dam­ages home

No one was in­jured in a house fire on Green­field Road near Baltics Cor­ners last week, how­ever, the home at 2217 County Road 30 sus­tained dam­ages of about $20,000.

There was no one in the house at the time of the blaze, re­lated North Glen­garry Fire Chief Pa­trick Gau­thier.

Fire­fight­ers were called to the scene at about 8: 30 a. m., Tues­day, Aug. 30. Mem­bers of all three North Glen­garry fire sta­tions fought the fire.

“It was ex­tin­guished right away,” said Alexan­dria fire sta­tion chief Bernard Lalonde, adding much of the dam­age was due to smoke.

The fire was con­tained to the base­ment of the res­i­dence that is in the process of be­ing ren­o­vated. Mr. Gau­thier added “the home is not com­pletely dam­aged, but it will re­quire some re­pairs and clean­ing” be­fore any­one can re­side there. He said the fire is not be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious and the cause is still un­de­ter­mined.
