Golf club gains ground
North Glengarry is giving the Glengarry Golf and Country Club in Alexandria more room by giving it a portion of a three-acre piece of surplus land on the east end of Linsley Street East, situated west of the course. At last Wednesday’s meeting, council approved selling for a nominal fee the land which will be improved and maintained by the club. The township had taken ownership of the land after a house at the east end of Linsley Street East was destroyed in a fire.
Golf cart paths and tee-off areas encroach onto the land, which will be severed from the three acres before the transaction can be finalized. In the interim, to enable the club to use the property as soon as possible, the municipality will rent the land to the golf club. CAO Daniel Gagnon will return to council with a draft for a 20-year agreement.
