Staff A small but passionate group of protesters were in Alexandria last Thursday, part of a country-wide SOS Car Tour aimed at raising awareness about human rights violations and alleged ‘organ harvesting’ in China.

“We started this 300-city tour because of the release of a new report in June which estimates that 60,000 to 100,000 (illegal organ) transplants a year have been done in China since 2000,” said Grace Dai, an Ottawa resident who was part of the sextet that gathered in front of the North Glengarry municipal office on Main Street shortly before noon.

“China has no open (organ) donation system...The source of these organs is the killing of innocent people by the state.

“It’s very, very brutal. It sounds like fiction, but it’s not. This is evil and it’s happening in China right now.”
