It’s always Summer under the Dome
Weather is never an issue for users of the Tim Hortons Dome in Alexandria.
In fact, many would say that it is Summer all year long at the facilities situated at 202 St. George St.
Multi-use, year-round installations such as the indoor sports complex are rarely found in small communities.
Constructed in late 2010, the Dome houses a soccer field, walking track and tennis courts and allows residents to take advantage of the health benefits of cardiovascular exercise, regardless of the conditions outdoors.
The project was partially funded by the federal and provincial governments, the township and a considerable amount of local fund-raising. The structure, owned by North Glengarry Township, also houses the clubhouse of the Glengarry Soccer League (GSL).
Soccer, lawn bowling, tennis and various special events take place in the facility that features a 200-metre rubberized surface walking track and a 90' x 180' rubberized indoor soccer field. With the addition of an indoor golf range in early March 2013, the facility is ready to provide year-round recreation activities for all ages. Public skating, most of it free to families of all ages, is hosted in the Glengarry Sports Palace (GSP) in Alexandria and the Maxville & District Sports Complex in Maxville from September to April.
Maxville & District Sports Complex
The Maxville & District Sports Complex officially opened in May of 1978. The building was financed through a fund raising drive which combined donations and grants from local governments, service clubs, and other community organizations. Reputed to be one of the best ice surfaces in Eastern Ontario, the indoor arena has an ice surface that is NHL regulation size. The building was officially named the Osie F. Villeneuve Arena to commemorate his hard work in securing funds from the Ontario government. Besides public skating, the arena offers both adult and youth hockey programs and leagues. The facility is also available for corporate events, conventions, annual association meetings, trade shows, auctions, receptions and parties.
Glengarry Sports Palace
Opened in 1976, the Glengarry Sports Palace (GSP) is a multi-purpose, community facility housing the Alexandria branch of the SD&G County Library, a community hall, two baseball diamonds, a soccer field and the Billy Gebbie Arena. Throughout the hockey season, the arena is alive almost around the clock.
