Lights at 34 and 417?

Traf­fic sig­nals are be­ing pro­posed to im­prove safety at the busy High­way 417High­way 34 in­ter­sec­tion, si­t­u­ated south of Van­kleek Hill on the North Glen­garry-Cham­plain Town­ship.

Lights would be in­stalled at the High­way 417 east­bound ramp, op­po­site Tan­nery Road, west of the en­trance to Herb’s Travel Plaza.

Sev­eral ac­ci­dents have oc­curred at the spot over the last sev­eral years.

Other mea­sures con­tained in the On­tario Min­istry of Trans­porta­tion pro­posal in­clude widen­ing High­way 34 to ac­com­mo­date left­turn lanes at the in­ter­sec­tion.

Copies of a pre­lim­i­nary de­sign can be con­sulted at the North Glen­garry of­fice in Alexan­dria and the Cham­plain town hall on Pleas­ant Cor­ner Road.
