Slug­gish mar­ket

The real es­tate scene was slug­gish at the end of the year, ac­cord­ing to the Corn­wall and Dis­trict Real Es­tate Board. Home sales num­bered 95 units in Novem­ber, down 8.7 per cent from Novem­ber 2015. On a year-to-date ba­sis home sales to­talled 1,400 units over the first 11 months of the year, 0.4 per cent ahead of the same pe­riod in 2015 and above lev­els from 2013 and 2014 as well.

The av­er­age price of homes sold in Novem­ber 2016 was $206,566, jump­ing 24.3 per cent from the same month in 2015.

The less volatile year-to-date av­er­age sale price was $202,932, up 4.8 per cent from the first 11 months of 2015. New res­i­den­tial list­ings num­bered 173 units in Novem­ber 2016, edg­ing up 2.4 per cent from a year ear­lier.

The Corn­wall and Dis­trict Real Es­tate Board cov­ers a large area, in­clud­ing Glen­garry, Prescott, Stormont, Corn­wall, and part of Dun­das.
