Rev. Stokes arrived in Lancaster in 1998 and tried to retire in 2003, only to find that the community wouldn’t let him. He was constantly being called to preach at various church services and perform other religious duties. Now, he has finally made good on his promise to retire and will be moving to Kingston, where he will spend his time studying the Gnostic gospels, the Dead Sea Scrolls and early Christianity. He reads Hebrew and Greek and is learning to read Coptic so he can better study the Gnostic gospels. Mr. McDonell organized the party for Rev. Stokes, who received well wishes from all three levels of the government, the local Masonic lodge, and other community members.
