Memories of Glengarry can be seen at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa where photos by John Flanders are on display. One of the gelatin silver prints, made in the 1960s, shows auction notices in the window of the defunct The Alexandria Times newspaper while another is of a Coca-Cola sign in Martintown. The notation reads that the England native pho- tographed towns in Eastern Ontario to preserve a record of their common architecture. He said: “Industrialization and urban problems have made us overlook the rural dilemma – economic decline and urban growth. A whole way of life is disappearing and with it an important part of our heritage... we must look and learn before it disappears completely.”
