Rebels an­nounce as­sis­tant coaches

Char-Lan ju­nior ‘B’ Rebels head coach and gen­eral man­ager Jeff Carter has inked Rod MacKen­zie and Luc Sabourin as as­sis­tant coaches for the up­com­ing sea­son.

MacKen­zie re­turns to the Rebels fold, hav­ing starred for the team as a player. He was part of the only Char-Lan group that claimed the cham­pi­onship of the for­mer East­ern On­tario Ju­nior ‘B’ League. His hockey re­sume in­cludes time with the Corn­wall Roy­als of the OHL and St. Fran­cis Xavier Univer­sity of the CIAU. Most re­cently he was be­hind the bench for Char-Lan’s ban­tam rep team.

Sabourin also brings a cham­pi­onship men­tal­ity to the ta­ble. He was part of a Memo­rial Cup-win­ning Guelph Platers squad in 1986, coached by long-time NHL bench boss Jac­ques Martin. His OHL ca­reer in­cluded a sea­son the Corn­wall Roy­als.

Train­ing camp for the 2017-18 Rebels is set to open on Aug. 27, in Corn­wall. Fans will get their first chance to see the team in ex­hi­bi­tion play on Mon­day, Aug. 28, against the ri­val Alexan­dria Glens.
