Happy cow myth

The Editor, Re: Editorial cartoon, The News, August 16;

The depiction of cows complaining about mowers cutting their grass left me disturbed and saddened, though not surprised.

Was the cartoon funded by the dairy industry?

On a routine basis, cows are forcibly impregnated using a device called a “rape rack” by the industry. Later, mothers give birth and are separated from their babies so humans can drink milk. Male calves are routinely slaughtered: females face a life of exploitation of their reproductive organs and premature death when they no longer produce as much milk.

Thankfully, plant-based milks and cheeses are satisfying, without cruelty, and health and environmental consequences.

The cows in your paper exist only in dairy industry marketing. Namaste.
