Char-Lan boys take sil­ver at EOSSAA hockey

Last week in Arn­prior, the SD&G cham­pion boys hockey team from Char-Lan DHS skated at EOSSAA, where the Cru­saders ran out of gas in their third game of the day, blanked by St. Joseph’s (Ren­frew) 5-0 to fin­ish as sil­ver medal­lists.

Char-Lan’s day opened with a 3-3 tie against Kingston’s La Salle SS. Cru­saders scor­ing were An­drew Dixon, Dono­van Fran­cis, and Lan­don Fraser “with a beauty from his knees,” as coach Sean O’Far­rell de­scribes it.

The team’s sec­ond round-robin ef­fort was a hard-fought 3-2 win over Em­brun, on goals from Xan­dre Seguin, Dixon, and Lach­lan McDonell.

The top three teams in the di­vi­sion were tightly-packed in the stand­ings at the end of reg­u­larsea­son play, with Green at 27 points, fol­lowed by Or­ange at 24 and Red just be­hind with 23. Grey rounded out the ta­ble, with 12 points.

Green was far-and-away tops in goal dif­fer­en­tial, at +21. Or­ange was the only other team on the plus side, at +1.

In play­off semi­fi­nals on Feb. 27, Or­ange dou­bled off Red 4-2, while Green topped Grey 8-5.
