Men vie for Moose ’spiel hon­ours

Si­mon Rem­ber's team from Orm­stown won the Claude Fil­ion Tro­phy, as the two-game­high cham­pion at the 54th an­nual Alexan­dria Mould­ing / Home Hard­ware Moose Bon­spiel, held last week­end at the Alexan­dria Curl­ing Club.

Rem­ber took a com­mand­ing lead af­ter his first game, scor­ing 17 points of a max­i­mum 18.

His squad du­pli­cated the feat in the its sec­ond draw, cap­tur­ing an­other 17 points, for a to­tal of 34, out­pac­ing Fred Law­ton's run­ner-up rink, from Baie D'Urfe.

With Rem­ber were third Jeff Rem­ber, sec­ond Scott McClin­tock, and lead Eric Houle.

One-game-high hon­ours were claimed by the Van­kleek Hill team of Mike Kirby, while the run­ner-up was Danny Mapp's Browns­burg rink.

There were 23 out­side en­tries in the Moose, as well as one lo­cal team, com­pet­ing for cash prizes, for the first time.

The bon­spiel is one of the long­est run­ning men's curl­ing com­pe­ti­tions in East­ern On­tario.
