Working up an appetite
SAWING AWAY: Lancaster resident Lauriane Marleau, 9, appears to have the advantage in this log-sawing demonstration at the St. Mary’s Church hall in Williamstown Sunday. At the other end of the saw is Father Louis Groetelaars, Tavish McDonald, 12, of Williamstown, and his father, Tom. Tavish’s mother, Tawnya, is sitting on the log. The log-sawing was one of several events that took place at the church’s Maple Syrup Festival, which doubled as a fundraiser for the church hall. Other events included a ham supper, a bonfire with hot apple cider, and horse-drawn wagon rides to Tony Vogel’s Sugar Camp. Event co-organizer Thelma Cholette says that the funds will help repair the roof and replace carpet in the hall’s reception area. Sunday’s event was the second fundraiser of the year; the first was a Family Day Social Feb. 18. The next event will be a post-canoe race spaghetti supper at the Char-Lan Rec Centre on April 15.
