So you want to run for coun­cil... Ev­ery­thing you need to know about seek­ing a mu­nic­i­pal coun­cil seat in the fall elec­tions will be pre­sented at a can­di­date in­for­ma­tion work­shop April 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the South Stor­mont Com­mu­nity Hall, 2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault.

The ses­sion will help you de­cide whether to put your name for­ward, pro­vide a clear un­der­stand­ing of a mu­nic­i­pal coun­cil's roles and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, demon­strate the im­pact of the du­ties and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties that pub­lic of­fice will have on your life.

Who should at­tend? Po­ten­tial can­di­dates and their spouse or part­ner and any­one in­ter­ested in learning about how lo­cal gov­ern­ment works.

Topics in­clude roles and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, the pub­lic's role in lo­cal gov­ern­ment, con­flict of in­ter­est rules, and other per­sonal re­spon­si­bil­ties, Stor­mont-Dun­das-Glen­garry County re­spon­si­bil­i­ties and the 2018 elec­tion meth­ods.

The meet­ing is or­ga­nized by the coun­ties and the six lo­cal mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties.
