Les Rapides to skate at Franco
BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor Le Relais’ boys hockey team is off to Niagara Falls this week, competing in the Tournoi Franco-Ontarien.
Head coach Dominic Decoeur puts his troops through their final preparations last Friday at a tournament in Hawkesbury, where les Rapides finished second in competition with teams from much larger schools.
Decoeur adds that he was “very happy with the results” in the “high-tempo hockey.”
In game one versus l’Escale, Le Relais scored five times in the second period, falling short in a 6-5 loss.
Jeremy Quesnel counted a hat trick to lead les Rapides, with Kieran Craig and Mathieu Sabourin accounting for the other markers.
The second game went into the books as an 8-1 victory. Goal scoring information was not available.
In the third contest of the day, le Relais skated to a 3-1 win, on a pair of tallies by Quesnel and one from Sabourin. This year’s Franco tournament runs April 18 to 20.
In April 5 exhibition play in Alexandria, le Relais escaped with a 7-6 win against the Casselman Dynamos, to even the team’s record at the .500 mark.
Defensive lapses late in each period cost les Rapides, as the contest otherwise would not have been close.
Craig, Sabourin, and Jeremy Chenier each found the back of the opposition net twice, with the other marker notched by Alex Lalonde.
