Staff Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry (SDSG) officially has two candidates seeking to unseat incumbent Conservative MPP Jim McDonell in June’s provincial election.

Alfred resident Sabile Trimm recently announced that she will be seeking the Libertarian Party nod, joining Cornwall teacher Heather Megill, who is seeking the Liberal nomination.

Mrs. Trimm, a former research scientist with Montreal firm Certara Strategic Consulting, a provider of pharmaceutical clinical and regulatory strategic services, now operates Yeoman Beef in Alfred with her husband, Kevin. The business is a member of the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario. Mrs. Trimm’s change in careers has also changed her perspective, particularly when it comes to the issues facing farmers and other members of rural communities. “When you live in the big city, you just can’t imagine what it’s like,” she says on the Libertarian Party website. “Or, at least, I had no idea until I hopped over to the other side.” Mrs. Trimm added that she and her team are “going to do our best to get the word out about civil liberties, property rights, minimal governmental interference, and democracy,” leading up to the June 7 vote.
