High school soccer
The 2018 edition of SDGAA high school soccer kicks off this week, with a busy two-and-ahalf week league schedule.
In senior play today, May 4, Tagwi’s boys and girls teams will be at North Dundas.
Boys matches are booked for 9:30 a.m. (versus the Devils) and 12:30 p.m. (against Seaway). The girls are scheduled to hit the turf just once, at 11 a.m. to take on the Spartans.
Friday, May 4 will see the action move to Williamstown, for a full day of play on two pitches, all starting at 9:30 a.m., when the Gaels will play CCVS (boys and girls games simultaneously).
GD’s boys will also tangle with l’Heritage at 12:30 p.m.
The host Crusaders boys are slated for matches at 11 a.m. ( versus North Dundas) and 3:30 p.m. (against the Dragons).
Holy Trinity’s girls will play Seaway at 11 a.m., and their boys will take on the Spartans in the following match, at 12:30 p.m.
Monday, May 7, the action will continue in Williamstown, as Char-Lan hosts county rivals Glengarry and Holy Trinity.
Here’s the full schedule for the day: 9:30 a.m. Char-Lan vs. Holy Trinity girls, 11 a.m. Char-Lan vs. Holy Trinity boys, 12:30 p.m. Holy Trinity vs. GDHS girls, 2 p.m. Holy Trinity vs. GDHS boys, 3:30 p.m. Char-Lan vs. GDHS girls, 5 p.m. Char-Lan vs. GDHS boys.
Regular-season action continues through to May 18, with league playoffs booked for May 22. There will be four separate playoff tournaments: girls ‘A’, boys ‘A’, girls ‘AA’, and boys ‘AA’. Each will be hosted by the first-place team. The top four schools qualify.
There are 11 senior boys squads this year, playing a nine-game schedule. Nine senior girls teams will compete in an eight-contest campaign. Each match counts for points in the standings, regardless of ‘A’ or ‘AA’ ranking.
The junior teams were scheduled to get a jump on their older counterparts, booked to hit the pitch yesterday, May 1.
Tomorrow, May 3, Tagwi is slated to host three games.
At noon, the host Warriors boys squad will take on Glengarry, followed by the girls match-up at 1:15 p.m. The last game will see Char-Lan’s boys take on Tagwi, at 2:30 p.m.
In other action that day, Holy Trinity is scheduled to play at St. Lawrence, beginning at noon.
Next week, on May 10, GDHS and Tagwi will play at St. Joseph’s, while the Falcons will be at la Citadelle.
