GSL se­nior soc­cer to open week of May 21

The Glen­garry Soc­cer League’s adult di­vi­sions are sched­uled re­turn to the pitch the week of May 21, un­less Mother Na­ture in­ter­venes.

The 2018 cam­paign will fea­ture five se­nior men’s teams – Dun­ve­gan, Glen Sand­field, Green­field, MacCrim­mon, and Van­kleek Hill – the same num­ber as a year ago, though Dun­ve­gan fills in this time around for the Drillers.

With the loss of the Drillers, there is no Alexan­dri­abased club in the se­nior men’s divi­sion.

Green­field won the GSL cham­pi­onship last sea­son, the team’s fifth ti­tle in the six years.

On the women’s side, there will also be a quin­tet of con­tenders for 2018: Char-Lan, Dun­ve­gan, Glen Sand­field, Lag­gan, and Van­kleek Hill. This is a drop of two teams from last sea­son, with the ab­sence

Glen Ne­vis went out on a high in 2017, cap­tur­ing the GSL se­nior women’s ti­tle over de­fend­ing champ Dun­ve­gan, in a sweep.

Four teams are booked to com­pete in the tier 2 men’s divi­sion over the course of the sum­mer: Glen Ne­vis, Glen Sand­field, Green­field, and MacCrim­mon.

The tier 2 women’s group, where scores and stand­ings are not kept, and there are no play­offs, will have five teams play­ing this year: Char-Lan, Dun­ve­gan, Glen Ne­vis, Lag­gan, and Van­kleek Hill.

Mi­nor (youth) di­vi­sions

All mi­nor di­vi­sions, from U8 up, are also ex­pected to be­gin play the week of May 21. Sched­ules for all teams should be fi­nal­ized and re­leased next week. –
