Staff Last Fri­day, Alexandria hosted a huge “mega-rally” with over 1,000 stu­dents, teach­ers and alumni, and zanily-dressed mas­cots, from each of the 32 schools from the Con­seil sco­laire de district catholique de l’Est on­tarien (CSDCEO) mark­ing a dou­ble cel­e­bra­tion.

La Journée UNIS...CSDCEO un­der­lined achieve­ments, un­der the “Change le monde” theme, and the 20th an­niver­sary of the found­ing of French-lan­guage Catholic school boards in On­tario.

The big gath­er­ing on the arena sur­face of the Glen­garry Sports Palace had all the trap­pings of a con­cert, with the arena’s big stage set up, a pro­fes­sional light­ing and sound sys­tem, and an ex­cit­ing en­ter­tain­ment lineup of pro­fes­sional mu­si­cians and for­mer stu­dents that in­cluded Mat­tawa's award­win­ning singer/song­writer and pro­ducer Akeem Ouel­let who is now based in Ot­tawa. Ouel­let’s brand of Franco-On­tario rock pop had hun­dreds of stu­dents singing
