Swimmers strong at regionals
Two young swimmers from the county had solid results at last weekend’s regional meet.
Hailey McDonald, from Martintown, was one of just three 9-year-olds who had qualified to compete in the 10-and-under category. She achieved five top-20 results and three personal best times.
Alivia Kyer, who hails from Greenfield, swam seven events in the 10-and-under division, achieving personal bests in each.
She claimed gold in four – 400 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 200 backstroke – and bronze in the others – 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and 100 backstroke.
Kyer also won the Eastern Ontario Regional Championship High Point Award for racking up the most points overall in her class.
On the season, she has achieved four 10- and- under provincial times to qualify to compete against the top swimmers in her age group, at the provincial meet in Markham, set for June 15-17.
