Swim­mers strong at re­gion­als

Two young swim­mers from the county had solid re­sults at last week­end’s re­gional meet.

Hai­ley McDon­ald, from Mart­in­town, was one of just three 9-year-olds who had qual­i­fied to com­pete in the 10-and-un­der cat­e­gory. She achieved five top-20 re­sults and three per­sonal best times.

Alivia Kyer, who hails from Green­field, swam seven events in the 10-and-un­der di­vi­sion, achiev­ing per­sonal bests in each.

She claimed gold in four – 400 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 200 back­stroke – and bronze in the oth­ers – 50 freestyle, 50 back­stroke, and 100 back­stroke.

Kyer also won the East­ern On­tario Re­gional Cham­pi­onship High Point Award for rack­ing up the most points over­all in her class.

On the sea­son, she has achieved four 10- and- un­der provin­cial times to qual­ify to com­pete against the top swim­mers in her age group, at the provin­cial meet in Markham, set for June 15-17.
