MacLennan’s eye when he married her 50 years ago and things were no different when the couple was honoured at a 50th wedding anniversary party Sunday. The couple was joined by bridesmaid Charlotte Samson and best man Oliver McGee. Also at the party were children Beverly, Myrna, Bert, Linda and Donna.
Five-year-old Andree-Anne Samson and Erik Bergeron, 8, were the lucky winners of two bicycles raffled at the Optimist Club bicycle rodeo held in North Lancaster Saturday.

A black bear was spotted north of Kirk Hill by Lloyd Howes. Howes spotted the animal when he was driving on Old Military Road. He managed to get to a hundred feet from the bear when it turned onto Blind Road where it returned to the camouflage of summer vegetation.
He did not see the necessity to report the bear since it is indigenous to this area and was not showing signs of being an unhealthy animal.
All branches of the Alexandria, Lancaster, Winchester and Long Sault area libraries will soon be providing internet access to some 14,000 patrons.
Following a meeting on May 27, the Upper Canada District School Board announced it has cut 68 probationary teachers. Layoffs will affect 27 elementary school teachers and 41 at the high school level.

LCBO announced last week that it will stop using plastic bags at its stores by the end of the summer, and will instead offer customers paper bags or cardboard boxes to take home purchases.
