MacLen­nan’s eye when he mar­ried her 50 years ago and things were no dif­fer­ent when the cou­ple was hon­oured at a 50th wed­ding an­niver­sary party Sun­day. The cou­ple was joined by brides­maid Char­lotte Sam­son and best man Oliver McGee. Also at the party were chil­dren Bev­erly, Myrna, Bert, Linda and Donna.

Five-year-old An­dree-Anne Sam­son and Erik Berg­eron, 8, were the lucky win­ners of two bi­cy­cles raf­fled at the Op­ti­mist Club bi­cy­cle rodeo held in North Lan­caster Satur­day.

A black bear was spot­ted north of Kirk Hill by Lloyd Howes. Howes spot­ted the an­i­mal when he was driv­ing on Old Mil­i­tary Road. He man­aged to get to a hun­dred feet from the bear when it turned onto Blind Road where it re­turned to the cam­ou­flage of sum­mer veg­e­ta­tion.

He did not see the ne­ces­sity to re­port the bear since it is indige­nous to this area and was not show­ing signs of be­ing an un­healthy an­i­mal.

All branches of the Alexan­dria, Lan­caster, Winch­ester and Long Sault area li­braries will soon be pro­vid­ing in­ter­net ac­cess to some 14,000 pa­trons.

Fol­low­ing a meet­ing on May 27, the Up­per Canada District School Board an­nounced it has cut 68 pro­ba­tion­ary teach­ers. Lay­offs will af­fect 27 el­e­men­tary school teach­ers and 41 at the high school level.

LCBO an­nounced last week that it will stop us­ing plas­tic bags at its stores by the end of the sum­mer, and will in­stead of­fer cus­tomers paper bags or card­board boxes to take home pur­chases.

mu­si­cal soiree was per­formed by “Julie's Friends.”
