Glengarry DHS honours top athletes from 2017-18 school year
On Monday, Glengarry District High School held a student assembly to celebrate the sports year that was and to honour top Gaels athletes.
Amongst the big awards were Athlete of the Year honours, presented to a senior-level individual “who has a good attendance record, demonstrates leadership, athletic excellence, self-discipline, and is heavily involved in athletics at GDHS.”
Brooke Lapierre, a force in basketball, tennis, soccer, track and field, and cross-country running was the female recipient, while Dove Rickerd earned the male award, for his contribution to basketball, volleyball, and soccer.
Sportsperson Awards, presented to student-athletes who “are fair and honourable,” went to Rylee Franklin (female) and Xaavian Ali (male).
Thomas Nussbaumer received the Brian Filion Award for his contribution to Gaels soccer.
Kady Jeaurond was honoured with the Lions Club Award for her dedication and excellence in track and field.
The Junior Female Athlete of the Year Award went to Kristen MacRae, for her role in basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, and badminton.
Crew Rickerd and Logan Keurentjes shared the Junior Male Athlete of the Year trophy in what was a competitive class. Rickerd played soccer, basketball, and volleyball, while Keurentjes was active in soccer, volleyball, tennis, and football.
