“Wear your tartan proudly,” said the announcements and that’s what six-year-old Kenzie McRae did, donning her dress MacLeod kilt and pendant at the 82th annual Clan MacLeod picnic at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan. Kenzie is the daughter of Ashley MacLeod and Chad McRae. In the background on stage is Kenzie's grandfather Ian MacLeod with a group of his students, named for the day The MacLeod Clan Fiddlers. Mr. MacLeod shared the stage with alumni students, Paul Villeneuve sang a traditional tune a cappella, and there were high-stepping dancers including Mr. Villeneuve’s daughter Brenna, 10, who studies stepdancing with Ashley MacLeod. Over 80 proud MacLeods attended, meeting up with fellow MacLeods and honorary MacLeods, some of whom drove in from outside Glengarry. Nina McKechnie and Barbara Newman shared the story of Barbara and Gary’s visit with Ms. McKechnie in Scotland this April, their travels along backroads to hidden Scotland, and their moving experience visiting France to tour First World War battlefields, tunnels and trenches.
