Senior men’s championship on the line in game 3
BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor The championship of the Glengarry Soccer League’s senior men’s division comes down to one game, set for the field at VCI tonight, Aug. 29, when the host Vankleek Hill side, which was nearly unbeatable during the regular season, entertains the defending champs from Greenfield, at 8:30 p.m.
Greenfield, on their home field, took the opening game of the finals, on Aug. 22, as a Mike Buhr goal stood for a 1-0 win.
Goalkeeper Nicolas Vaillancourt was kept busy during the second half, as Vankleek Hill fought to equalize, but despite a significant territorial advantage, they could not.
Two days later, up north, the teams reconvened at VCI, where the tables were turned.
Vankleek Hill got a first-half marker, moments before the break, when Patrick Daoust got one past Vaillancourt.
Much of the second half was dominated by a Greenfield attack, which was wind-aided, though despite the pressure, the Red Shirts were unable to put one away.
The match went into the books as a 1- 0 win for the hosts, tying the series at a game apiece and setting the stage for tonight’s finale.
