Hearts girls hold first

The Hearts U13 girls soccer team holds top spot in the ERSL standings, with a record of 10 wins, 2 ties, and just 1 loss, as the season heads into the home stretch.

The Glengarrians have three matches remaining, including a road contest on Aug. 30 against West Ottawa. That will be followed by two home games, at Island Park in Alexandria, which AS Gatineau will visit on Sept. 3, and the Nepean Hotspurs Evolution on Sept. 15.

The Hearts’ last regular-season action, on Aug. 17, saw the girls play to a nil-nil draw with West Ottawa, in what coach Glen Campbell deemed “not our best effort.”

The team entered the contest riding a six-game winning streak.

Glengarry’s leading scorers to date are Mya Campbell (9) and Keira MacCormick (8).

The Hearts remain in the driver’s seat on the road to taking the division championship, though both Gatineau and Ottawa Gloucester are just behind in the standings. The teams also have games in hand on the Glengarry girls.

In the parallel ER Cup competition, the Hearts won their opener on July 15, with a 6-1 victory over Nepean, but last week were bounced by AS Gatineau, 5-1 in their round-two match.
