Jr. ‘B’ Rebels strive to be com­pet­i­tive

BY SEAN BRAY Sports Edi­tor The Char-Lan CCHL2 Rebels held their sec­ond on-ice ses­sion Mon­day, after which head coach Jeff Carter stressed the club will be ic­ing a com­pet­i­tive group that fea­tures six re­turn­ing for­wards, along with two vet­eran de­fence­men and a sea­soned goal­tend­ing tan­dem.

Grant Craig and Daw­son Irv­ing are back be­tween the pipes for the 2018-19 sea­son.

The Rebels’ top goal scorer from last sea­son, Bren­nan Markell, along with vets Sam Fer­land and Mathieu Sabourin will be counted upon to lead up front.

Char-Lan’s reg­u­lar-sea­son home opener is slated for Satur­day, Sept. 22, at the Char-Lan Rec. Cen­tre in Williamsto­wn, where the Winch­ester Hawks will visit and pro­vide the op­po­si­tion. Game time is set for 8 p.m.

The cam­paign will open the week be­fore, at the league show­case, where the Rebels will play a dou­ble bill on Sept. 15 and 16, in Arn­prior.

Ex­hi­bi­tion sched­ule

Fans get an early chance to see how the boys are shap­ing up, start­ing with an ex­hi­bi­tion game tonight in Alexan­dria, at the Glen­garry Sports Palace.

The Glens will re­turn the visit on Satur­day, Sept. 8. Both matches are set for an 8 p.m. puck drop.

Char-Lan is also sched­uled to play Sun­day on the road in Brockville, while Alexan­dria is slated to host the Rich­mond Roy­als, at 2:30 p.m.


More phys­i­cal Glens

Alexan­dria head coach Stephan Nadeau says the Glens “will def­i­nitely be a more phys­i­cal team than last year,” adding, “our fans can ex­pect a bet­ter all-around team … as we have added depth to our ros­ter.”
