Summer of learning for U16 girls

The Glengarry News - - Sports In The Glens - – Sean Bray

Forced to move up to compete at the top level of the East Region Soccer League this summer, Glengarry’s U16 girls Hearts found themselves in tough competition, in what was a summer of learning opportunities and a test of resilience.

Coming off back-to-back-to-back championship seasons, the Hearts were elevated to the regional division, for 2018.

Head coach Mike Jeaurond notes that the group got off to a slow start, as it took a while to jell. He adds that the Glengarrians found their legs as a team through the latter stages of the summer, though results didn’t always show that.

The girls finished with a record of 4 wins and 12 losses, the most recent of which came in Alexandria on Sept. 6, a 6-1 thrashing by Ottawa South United Force White. Brenna MacDonald had the lone Hearts tally. On the Thursday previous, it was a much tighter contest against Ottawa West, albeit the match still ended up as a loss, 3-2.

Michaela Kunz (the team’s top goal scorer this season) and Myriam Boisvenue counted the Glengarry markers.
