Tyke ’Cats to vie for NCAFA title
BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor The Cornwall Wildcats tyke 1 NCAFA football team will play for the ‘ A’ championship this weekend, after beating the tyke 2 Wildcats last Sunday, 28-18.
A trio of Glengarry boys has been key all season for the victorious squad, which ran the table with an 8-0 record, over the course of the regular season.
With two playoff wins under their belts, the Wildcats’ final challenge will come Nov. 4 at 9 a. m., in Nepean, versus Cumberland Blue.
In the Oct. 27 semifinal, Connor Hamelin had 15 rushes for 217 yards. The county boy scored three touchdowns, chalking up a trio of solo tackles and six assisted tackles.
Elliot Keenan had four solo and 10 assisted tackles, and Andrew Wiltshire had a tackle and a fumble recovery.
Rounding off the team’s scoring was Bryce Camplin, with one touchdown and a pair of twopoint convert kicks (at this level, kicks are worth two points).
Other Wildcats news
In other Wildcats results last weekend, the mosquito team’s season came to an end with a 26-0 loss to the Nepean Eagles, in ‘A’ semifinal play.
In the ‘B’ division semifinal last weekend, the peewee Wildcats prevailed 35- 12 over West Carleton, to advance to the Nov. 3 ‘B’ cup final, in Nepean.
Opening kickoff is set for 2 p.m., with the Bel Air Lions providing the opposition.
